The bike's frame is still sound. As long as that's the case, I can delay buying a new road bike. Incidentally, I found an online quiz about What Kind of Bike Should I Buy? I came up with Endurance Racer, which sounds rather like a contradiction in terms.
An endurance bike has a more relaxed geometry, allowing a more erect riding position. A racer is more "aggressive", making a low, aerodynamic position possible at the cost of a certain amount of comfort.
I don't need a true racing bike, but would such a bicycle stand up better to wear and tear? Or will a miracle happen, and I'll get strong enough to upgrade my gears to something approximating racing bicycle gearing? Time will tell.
