I was glad I did. That wind felt cold, and I was wishing I had worn heavier socks; my feel felt chilled. Despite the wind, I averaged 12.87 mph for 50 miles. That's better than last Sunday by about 0.5 mph. I felt stronger today, maybe because I was eating more. I'm still training my gut for the next big ride.
Having my arms and legs covered at least meant I didn't use so much sunblock. Today all I had to worry about was my face, ears, and neck. That saved time as well as sunblock.
On cooler days I drink less than on hot days, of course, but I still must have downed around 2-3 liters of water, plus about 24 oz of electrolyte drink. I bet I'd drink as much if the temperature were down almost to freezing! But if were that cold, I might be a sissy and not ride.
