It sounded great, and I was thinking about doing the Katy Trail myself. I was even inspired to name my hybrid "Katy"!
Well, maybe some day. When I thought about how much I could spend on getting me and my bike to Missouri (and back home afterwards), borrowing or buying assorted equipment, and so on, I saw that I could easily spend several thousand bucks on such a vacation. I decided I'd rather put the money on a road bike, and I've never regretted it.
Tammany Trace is a Rails to Trails project. Being unable to get to it whenever I want is one of the very few things that makes me regret not owning a car. The Mississippi River Trail also came up when I searched for it on the Rails to Trails site. Since the only portion of the MRT that I know is on top of the levee, I find it hard to think of it as being Rails to Trails. Railroad tracks on top of the levee??
Riding more of the Rails to Trails paths is another item to put on my bucket list, along with Adventure Cycling tours. Looks like I'll have a second career as a vagabond!
