So, is it OK to be in lower zone 3 when my training schedule says to ride at zone 2? My concern here is that, unless I push a hard gear that tires me too quickly for a long ride, it's almost impossible for me to maintain the speed I want and stay in zone 2.
Well, now I know that, next time I decide to do a century, I need to start working at muscular endurance much sooner. The big day is only three weeks away, and the week leading up to it is taper week. In effect, I have only two more weeks to work at this.
I'd be less concerned if there weren't any climbing on this century. At least two weeks left to train is better than two days left.
