It seemed very soon to me for the chain to need replacement; and when I said so at the bike shop, one of the guys said something like, "Well, if you ride fifty-thousand miles a week..." In fact, they once told me that I put in more miles than most of their customers.
He was ribbing me, of course. Naturally I don't ride 50,000 miles a week; even top-notch pros don't ride that much! I did wonder whether it was something I did (or didn't do) to make the chain wear out. They said, probably not.
And if needing a new chain after 1300 miles is bad, I read somewhere that a Tour de France rider might go through as many as three chains by the time the Tour is over.
On second thought, Le Tour was 2193 miles this year. Looking at it from that angle, needing a new chain at 1300 miles is about par for the course.
