I need to save up some energy now, because next week I begin the 9-week century training plan outlined in Get Fast! I'm going to have to do some tweaking, because I don't have time to ride as long as some of the workouts outlined; but the plan gives me general guidelines. This particular plan even schedules an easy week every third week; that fits right into my usual timetable!
Even riders in Le Tour take rest days. Not that I would call them rest days; they're still riding for several hours. Just not racing. Tomorrow they take a break; then five more days of racing. Whew!
